After we discussed again and again, we chose the topic of " Sleep deprivation"
definition of sleep deprivation
reason why we chose it
Based on the desk research, we found this topic has social meanings.
Differences of sleep habits between those in ancient times and modern times can be obviously seen, and the changes in historical background are irreversible. Therefore, modern people's sleep habit can also hardly be changed as well. However, the change actually effects human health and working conditions in their common life. So, we would try to find a way to help with that.
Then we did market researches first, according to the process of sleep. We found many products and could be concluded into several types.
1. Products change sleep equipments and physical environments.
2. Products help arrange and record the sleep.
3. Products help reduce difficulties of getting up.
Then my teammates made questionnaires.
1. Users interviewed were mainly Chinese students and working groups, we still needed to consider about people with different cultures.
2. Most of them knew about the negative effect of lack of sleep, but they still actively or passively bear sleep deprivation in a long term.
Then we did interviews with students in LCC.

Analysis of interviews with students
I analyzed with the interview outcomes and compared Chinese students with students from other countries.
1. They got similar reasons for lack of sleep and got different reasons to relive tiredness in the day.
2. They were in a similar environment and their habits tended to be a little similar.
Then I did interviews with three Chinese people who worked in the special environments.
I mainly asked several questions:
1. What is your schedule?
2. How do you feel when you don't sleep and when you sleep after a long time working?
3. How you relieve your tiredness during the work?
4. How are the physical environment and your mental conditions?
Below were the notes I took. (mainly in Chinese)
interview with a Chinese doctor
interview with a Chinese coast guard
interview with a Chinese nurse
analysis of interview outcomes
From the interviews, I found a vicious cycle and I wanted to find an opportunity in this process to help users relieve their tiredness and improve their sleep.
Feedbacks after presentation:
1. We used too much digital diagrams and not clear enough.
2. We didn't point out keywords from the interview in the presentation to show the analyzing process.
3. We didn't get several good design insights.
